Creative Storefront is a one-stop shop for writers looking to progress professionally. Whether you need to chart a career in writing, learn to publicize and market your work, need a website to help you do so, or want professional feedback on your manuscript, we can help.
At Creative Storefront we offer encouragement as well as practical advice and time-tested techniques. Our feedback is based on knowledge gained while working in the publishing industry, as well as our own experience as working writers. Book publishing and publicity is not brain surgery, but it can be confusing and intimidating. We’re here to help shine a light on the process, to help you learn what you need to navigate successfully.
The four members of Creative Storefront have a combined 30 years experience in the publishing industry. We’ve been involved in nearly every aspect of the process—from acquisitions and editorial, to publicity and marketing, with a bit of production as well. We know how the system works, and the best way to make it work for you. From how to get an agent, to how to work with your publicist—or how to be your own publicist—we have the inside knowledge you need to help chart your course.
In addition to our consulting work, all four members of Creative Storefront are working writers. We’ve had to face the questions all writers must confront—how do I make writing my career, how do I get published, how do I make sure my book sells? We’ve also watched hundreds of other writers try to solve these problems. We’ve seen what works and what doesn’t, and we took notes. Our goal at Creative Storefront is to help other writers shorten the learning curve and avoid the pitfalls. We want to use our knowledge and know-how to empower other writers to succeed in their creative ventures.
Our consultations and feedback are customized to our clients, wherever you are in the process. There is a lot of information available online and in books (some is accurate, some is not), but nothing compares with a personal consultation tailored to the specifics of your situation. For examples of how effective this can be, see our section on case studies.
In addition to working together, all the members of Creative Storefront are friends. We met at various places in the literary world—a writers’ conference, a publishing company, working on Litquake, the San Francisco literary festival. Not only do we work together we like each other, and we particularly like helping other writers. The literary world can be a wonderful place, filled with interesting, smart, creative people. We’d like to help you discover this, and to make sure you have the skills and knowledge to get where you want to go.
